Hello, I'm Norbert

Arcen, Netherlands

I am a retired docent (mechanical engineering en informatics) born in Germany, now living in The Netherlands with my dutch wife. Healthy, fit and agile I enjoy my retirement. Experience in boating on the inland waterways of Europe (e.g. Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Berlin, Paris, Hamburg, Brussels, Basel, Strasbourg) and the Baltic Sea (German coast, Denmark, Sweden, Poland).

This year I sail again via Dutch and German rivers and canals to the Baltic Sea.
Would you like to sail with me as a guest? I have space for max. 3 guests.

section 1:
I start at the 20th may 2019 in Holland, sailing in two weeks to Hanover.
On the way we dock in picturesque Dutch towns, pass numerous locks and if you are interested we visit the Kalkriese-battlefield where in 9 AD. Germanic warriors defeated three Roman legions (around 15,000 soldiers).

section 2:
After Hanover we cross the river Elbe on the longest canal bridge in the world, a 918 m aquaduct.
In Wolfsburg we visit the Autostadt, the exhibition center of the Volkswagen-factory and in Potsdam we take the bikes and explore the Sanssouci Park with the famous Castles of the Prussian Kings.
And then we sail on the river Spree into the heart of the German capital. If you want, you can stay on board for a few more days and explore the city. About 10 days from 2 June.

section 3: (sorry, already booked)
From Berlin we sail in two weeks along interesting Polish cities to the Baltic coast.
In Peenemünde you can visit the grounds where the Nazis developed the world's first cruise missiles the V2.
We sail through the 'Botten waters' and dock on the island of Rügen with the famous white chalk cliffs. .
Our journey ends in the old Hanseatic city of Stralsund with its numerous medieval buildings.
Stralsund has very good train connections with the airports of Berlin, Dusseldorf or Frankfurt.

section 4: (booked)
In Stralsund my wife will come aboard and accompany me for about six weeks.

section 5:
We start in Berlin on the 11th of August. Possibly you come on board a few days earlier to catch a breath of the famous 'Berlin Air' and explore the city.

We stop in Potsdam, the old royal residence of the Prussian kings and German emperors. By bike we cross the extensive park and visit the famous castles.
Through the picturesque lake landscape we sail to the west.
We will cross the Elbe River on the longest canal bridge in the world.

With some large locks, the Mittelland Canal and the Dortmund-Ems Canal will bring us to the Ruhr area, the former center of the German heavy industry.
We visit an old ship lift and pass numerous witnesses of past industrialization such as winding towers and blast furnaces.
In Oberhausen we stop at the 'Gasometer', Europe's largest disc-type gas holder. From the top of this building (117.5 meter) you have a panoramic view.
On the river Rhine, in the company of large cargo ships we sail downstream back to the Netherlands.

On section 1, 2, 3 and 5 I have space on board for 2 to 3 guests, preferably a team/couple.

You are interested in accompanying me on this privat cruise?
